I even tested how well it shut the power to my devices off and, sure enough, my Kill A Watt instrument showed that power usage dropped to near 0 watts, which impressed me since the Conserve apparently uses a such a small amount of power to listen for the radio signal from the switch. In my case, I ran the numbers, and using my Belkin Conserve will more than pay for itself within the first year of use, and save me hundreds of dollars over my equipment's lifetime. If you have a situation where you need a power strip in an out of the way place, then buy this product. You can even configure a single switch to power off multiple power strips, or just have each strip operate on its own frequency with its own switch.I've been using my Conserve for about two months, and it's worked flawlessly the entire time. It's only marginally more expensive than other power strips, and chances are that you'll make up the price difference within only a few months of use.The Belkin Conserve is one of my biggest recommendations on Amazon. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R28XHS2UX1OXCI Studies suggest that 5% of America's power usage is consumed up by "phantom load", when devices that you turned off continue to consume at least some electricity. Turning power strips off cuts off "vampire" devices and prevents them from using electricity, but I tend to leave my power strips on because they're hidden under a desk or behind furniture or sometimes even in a different room. That's where the Belkin Conserve power strip comes in, offering a convenient way to turn your power strips off with a remote switch that you can mount on top of your desk, near your TV couch, or by a light switch.
I bought 2 and am planning on adding another, so both my tv/dvd/theater system set ups are covered, as well as my computer and associated equipment. Great product. Easy set up and the remote works well even when mounted on the wall in an adjoining room to where the strip is located.
The surge protector turns off everything so nothing is using standby power while not in use.Worked right out of the box the first time - no adjustments needed to be made.Definitely recommend. I turn on what I need and, when I'm all done, I turn all of the equipment switches off (as I would normally) and then push the surge protector switch off from the comfort of my couch 15 feet away. Works exactly as advertised.I have my entire home theater/gaming setup hooked into to this. DVR/Cable Box is hooked into the "always on" outlet and everything else into the switchable outlets (AV receiver, Blu-Ray player, XBox, Wireless bridge, subwoofer). When I'm ready to watch something I push the surge strip's switch from across the room and everything attached to the switchable outlets is provided power (stand-by power - as if plugged into the wall).
You can setup the channels on the remote so that you can either turn off multiple power bars with a single remote or you can use separate remotes for separate power bars. There are 3 areas for improvementThe unit is quite large relative to conventional power bars The power bar doesn't protect cable, network or phone cablesThe safety feature that allows you to slide a cover across the slots for plugs, can make it really difficult to plug things in. The power bar itself draws minimal power. This is especially true when you are reaching behind something to plug things in Good quality product and a great way to conserve energy. This powerbar keeps two outlets on permanently while the remaining plugs can be turned off and on with the remote control.
So I have to remember to power down the DVD player. picked this up recently for less than the Amazon + rebate price (store rhymes with Dome Hepot). I'm getting another one of these for my computer peripherals. not a big deal, but if I forget I'll end up losing more juice.Anyway. Sturdy construction, nice remote. Note that there is also a small button on the strip itself in case the remote goes missing (which is another reason the remote requires a firm press -- a little too hard to explain, I guess). My only complaint -- my DVD player will turn ON when I turn the power strip on.
